Ya man,
You can buy a hilt now. Then save up for a soundboard. As of right now you only have two options. It'll require you shipping your hilt back to them and they'll do the install for you.

After the ASP system launches you'll be able to install your own soundboard by purchasing the soundboard/LED electronic expansion (no solid date yet, November likely).

Yeah, as they said, you can either send your saber back in for the price of the board/installation, which ranges around 150-180, depending on what they're upgrading... or, when the ASP system comes out, they will have full electronics kits that you can purchase and put into any of their hilts that are ASP compatible, pre-wired, with easy plug-and-play style connectors.

So this thread is amazing and helpful, just wanted to say that first off!

One thing I was curious about, FAQ mentions that in Champion tier, the covertech is included/installed along with a blade plug included.

In the last week I made a purchase thru Etsy for a PS Champion Crystal Reveal, and it's main function to me is display, maybe some cosplay. I didnt see mention of the above item inclusions, but I don't really want a covertech knob actually. In the PS info it mentioned the tri-ring, which is perfect and what I want.

In this instance is that what is in place of the knob unless ordered specifically with a covertech, or should I expect a knob installed..?

Also, does this mean I'm also receiving a blade plug, or is that extra since Etsy didn't mention that as part of the order.

Thanks for clarification FAQ thread!

I know its hard to tell before they're actually released but do you know if the Disciple or Acolyte will be ASP compatible?

Also, with the initiate hilts does the button that would turn it on if it had the electronics actually press? like if i do buy the hilt and then get the ASP components in there will the button turn it on? or will the hilt need to be modified anyway?

Perhaps I answered my own question on the knob/tri-ring/D-ring. By looking at a few review videos, I saw a knob on a Redeemer, but not on PS Champions etc.

So Champions include a ..."connector" of sorts on its hilt, usually an installed covertech knob, but in some hilts it's a tri or D ring depending on type and finish.

Still unsure if I'm receiving a blade plug lol but that's all good wasn't expecting one.

The thin neck sabers (Redeemer, Exhalted, Prodigal Son) are not designed to accept blade plugs and don't come with one.

99% of all SF sabers come with a covertech knob installed standard at all tiers. I believe the only exception is the Prodigal Son, which has a tri-ring option as the standard.

Erebus: no, initiates will have dummy switches as place holders commonly. These are just solid pieces. The ASP kits will come with switches. They are literally all of the guts and internals your saber need to work. The apprentice sabers are one solid machined piece with a pommel. The pommels are ASP compatible but the rest of the hilt isn't modular.

Wait...so all the hilts come with the covertech knob as standard? So what's the option on the order page that adds $10 when you pick covertech?

It's a good idea to have at least two of those belt clips if you're thinking about this as a hobby, easy to lose and if you're letting a friend borrow one to spar it helps your own peace of mind to know that it's well attached.

Question: Is there a list of Saber Hilts that can/can't be made into staffs available? I know about the staff link, I'm referring to the hilts themselves accommodating it.

More specific question: Could two Venomous Fury sabers be made into a staff?

Yes.

The only saber not compatible w/the staff couplers is the Bane. That said there have been multiple iterations of the couplers and different threading so as it notes in the coupler page:
The staff coupler can be purchased to combine two sabers into a saber staff. We have several versions and thread pitches, so please write in the order notes what saber you are combining so we ship the correct coupler.

Hey guys, just wanted to point out, there's been another update on the FAQ, few more questions answered, some more detail given, updated with a link to the ASP builder site, and added a new section of "Forum How-To"... first section on properly uploading and embedding images. SO! Give it a look over, and, as always, if you have more ideas, let me know! I'm happy to keep this growing and expanding with our collective knowledge base. :)

Updated with guides for Videos and Links, ran through some other information, touched up a couple items. Again, if you think of something not included, let me know!

Also, if anyone is asking, there IS thin-neck blade information in the FAQ as well, under the thin-neck dueling section. So make sure, newcomers, that you're browsing through the FAQ to see what's all included first. Thanks! :)

SF uses universal chargers and now includes adapters for European outlets even... so you're safe using the charger from SF that comes with the saber.
