I pre ordered on indiegogo on the 30th and haven't received a single email from them since then... I've been in contact with the Saberforge facebook account but whoever is managing that told me he is only responsible for social media and that I should email them, which I did.

That was on january the 8th. I've sent another email since then but haven't gotten anything back, but my credit card got billed so I guess that's something...

I preordered the exact same day as you and got an email almost exactly 24 hours later.

You should check your spam folder. The email came from "This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. " and the subject title was "IndieGogo Campaign"

If that isn't in your spam then definitely email them and WAIT. Its taking them at least a week or so to get back to people because they have like 1000 emails a day right now and I believe only 3 people to deal with them. It was said awhile back that when you repeatedly email before getting a response, you push your own issue further back in the line not to mention adding more to their workload which is crappy so just don't do it!

They will definitely get the email to you after you let them know you were missed. Its just a simple form to fill out with your chosen ASP parts.

Heck, I backed ASP and we don't even know when we're getting the darn things. Communication has sorta been bare minimum.

At this point i would not expect February. As a kickstarter backer i have seen many delays and the outcry for more updates from the masses of backers who at times seem to think kickstarter is amazon. We would all like more updates but some people can be a bit overboard.

That said i am not upset with the process and would rather they take their time and get it right. If i wanted a saber fast i would have bought an ultrasaber, I instead want a thing of beauty and im willing to wait for it.

As for indigogo I expect that the kickstarter was to setup the production line with the large time, equipment, and training investment. So indigogo should just be full on production after that point and i would expect a much quicker turn around for them once the KS rewards are on the way.

Just be mindful that they are under a heavy load just from regular business not counting any of the ASP campaigns. So keep in mind how long it would take someone who ordered an etsy or main site saber to get theirs before judging to harshly.

So be patient and join in conversations on the boards here to pass the time and keep your spirits up. :)

I just keep thinking, for every one of us on the forum, there must be 50 that pledged who aren't.
At least here people can calmly see that others are in exactly the same situation and hopefully together, try to enjoy the anticipation.

I don't mind it taking a while to receive the KS/Indiegogo ASP sabers, especially since preorders were really done early in the prototyping stage... But a bit more transparency on where the product is at would be cool.

Something as simple as a roadmap of what needs to be done between now and when all ASP sabers have shipped, with a general idea of where the project is at currently, or even a vague idea of when they'll have more information about ASP progress, instead of 'PRE ORDERS are now available for our revolutionary ADAPTIVE SABER PARTS' on the front page.

There's an update on their face book page :)
Apparently they're currently working to establish legal safety conditions in their workshops and they hope to be done and ready to start shopping by febuary.
So.... Yay?

So, february! I just got more excited about it :woohoo:

  • Attatchment is forbidden. Possesion is forbidden. Compassion, which I would define as unconditional love, essential to a jedi's life. So you might say, that, we are encouraged to love.

Yeah I'm a little confused about that. The last official update through the Kickstarter (12/14) stated that "we have finished 80% of our parts and only have pommels and a portion of our body sections remaining to be machined."

However the Facebook update seems to indicate that the machine shop hasn't opened yet pending OSHA inspection.

Those two seem to be mutually exclusive... Which one is accurate? I tend to believe the 12/14 update since it was posted through the official channel of KS updates by Phil vs this FB update by their social media guy. However, it's clearly sent the comments section of the KS into a greater tissy than it already was (which is saying something...)

Also Knytiri's post from December (who I believe works for SF) also seems to contradict the FB update..
Knytiri wrote:
ASP parts are pouring in currently. We still have to organize and QC all the parts recieved and will be finalizing orders (yes... some still haven't put theirs in and cause of the way kickstarter is... this delays literally everyone) and pulling and begin shipping within the next few weeks.

This update seems to me to cause more confusion then clarity...

I imagine it's along the lines of; they were working in their own way, getting the pieces in from where ever they're being manufactured currently. the business size suddenly became much bigger and therefore subject to greater scrutiny and in order to continue they had to comply to a set of rules they may have not been fully prepared for. That sounds reasonable to me.

The statement still says they'll be ready to ship once this process is out of the way. It doesn't really contradict the previous statement.

So true. I'm an IGG backer, but I visit the KS comments section regularly. Man, the reaction to that FB post was epic.
No matter what happens now, you shouldn't be afraid. Because I know today has been the most perfect day I've ever seen.

Ya i tend to wait until something is mentioned here before i go check the KS message board now its gotten pretty toxic in there.. Its like someone locked 10 toddlers in a toy isle with every toy they want out of reach. Which is to say lots of tantrums and not a lot of constructive conversation.

It seems to have calmed down for the moment now though in the aftermath of the update.

Sorry, I'm new. What's the KS message board? I know the TCSS board. The FX-Sabers.com board, the UltraSabers board, the RPF, the Dented Helmet, the 501st....what's KS? Google search of "KS message board" + "lightsaber" didn't turn up anything.

I ordered through the IndieGoGo campaign. Should I be worried that we're not going to get our sabers any time close to late February? I'm a 44 year old attorney, which I bring up simply to say that the whole OSHA thing sounds a little...weird. I'm not calling anyone a liar. Just now I'm a little worried.

Thoughts?

Hi ANorris,

I believe the KS Board refers to the Kickstarter message board SaberForge are on. It was set up to help fund the start of the whole ASP project. If you search for "Saberforge ASP Kickstarter" you may find a link for it. Unfortunately I couldn't afford to be one of the backers, oh well.

Kind regards

For Tyeth

ps I think this link is what you're looking for but it's for backers of the project.

Here's my understanding, taking all the updates as a cohesive whole, rather than contradiction:

ASP aluminum hilt components aren't machined in-house, but sourced from a large-scale manufacturer to keep costs down and supply up.

The Saber Forge machine shop serves other purposes:

1) Assembly of saber electronics (Not just ASP electronics kits, but also standard LEDs and sound boards available for sale right now, as well as wiring up the completed sabers currently for sale)

2) Machining of currently available and custom-order hilts

3) Sorting ASP inventory, as well as packaging and shipping all orders

4) Possibly weathering of ASP component (assuming parts come from the manufacturer only as standard silver or black)

So the shop safety upgrades aren't holding up the production of ASP hilt components (as those should be near-complete, if not already completed by now) - but inventory, sorting, electronics-soldering, weathering, packing, and shipping can't really be taken care until the SF Shop is up to code.

This might be a bit off base, but it's the best I can gather from my own experience as a machinist. Obviously someone on-staff could give a better explanation of things.

Kouri is a rare person on the interwebs...thoughtful and thinks about the whole picture. I don't work for SF and I am a IGG person. I am waiting like the rest of us. His assessment makes sense given the way they have described the process to date. Could SF give more information, of course! There is no such thing as enough information when you are waiting. Maybe if they installed individual webcams for each order to help you see it made live then people would be happy....oh wait, people would complain that is it staged....never mind....
