Shot in the dark, but I think it sounds like a fun idea, any saberforgers/saber fanatics on this site attending the Space Battle in San Diego? If so, it would sound pretty fun to get a group together (even if we have opposing views on the force, nothing wrong with a little saber talk, getting to know your target, etc.). Who's down!??
For those who don't know, it's basically large group of people split into light or dark side teams who duke it out with lightsabers. More info here. Space Battle They seem sporadic in their locations. Also, don't let the fact that it's called "Cats in Space" deter you, it's a loop hole to keep the Disney lawyers off their backs. |

This happening tomorrow? Man, I LOVE San Diego, and that would have been fun. But it takes a little more advanced warning for me to haul it three hundred miles southward, braving the LA freeways to get there.

They do have cheap quality sabers you can buy for like 10 bucks, but eh, they'll most likely have another one back in San Diego this Fall, so you can bring your saber to it then!

This Friday, actually. As for your advanced warning, Brax, it seems like they'll have this again in San Diego, like I told Valkaryie. If you want to shave off a few miles and don't want to slog though as much hellish Southern California traffic, they have an L.A. one this fall as well, but man, the San Diego venue was perfect!

The family and I vacation in San Diego whenever we can, and I consider the hell of the LA freeways the toll to get where I really want to be. I lived in that area when I was stationed at Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, and it is my fondest wish to retire there someday.

There was one here in San Jose on Saturday. About 500 people showed up. Was much fun. Also.. are any of you Southern California guys going to SDCC this year?

SDCC? July 21-24. Also all of you will have much fun for the Space Battle. We got there around 8:20 (it started at 9) If you are buying a saber, which is really not needed then earlier the better. Up here I did run into 6 people who owned SF sabers so that was pretty neat. Unsure if any are on the forums. From what I experienced it started to die down around 10 so you get a solid hour in at least.

Don't blame you Brax, just that whole area down to San Diego in general is quite scenic. Actually used to go camping near Camp Pendleton back in my Boy scout days as well, good times! Also, thank you for your service!
You guys got in to SDCC!? I've been trying for the past three years and still no luck! Some fine day I'll win that lottery  MommyHoldMe, the San Diego one I went to last year was exactly like that, later start time and all (didn't have my saber then, couldn't tell who was a saberforge owner). Also, there's a 60% chance it will rain during this upcoming event, so if you're all for dueling in a dramatic setting, here's your chance. Had rain during the last one as well, which gets my blood flowing just thinking about it! |

Pedrias, helpful hint for SDCC, get in as a volunteer. Free admission, only have to work one 3 hour shift each day and a free shirt. Volunteer registration begins around December, I also have gotten into first wave of ticket buying the past few years. We should def chat and plan it out later this year

I'm hoping my saber comes in time for the next one and before anime expo. Was planning to do a cosplay of a grey jedi samurai with the katana lightsaber. Made an automail for my fiance and wanted to make a run in samurai for me. Would look amazing with the beautiful katana. No pics yet of the armor, still in sketch mode but the automail for my fiance is done!

Thank you CallMeMistaJ! I remember seeing on the news that some guy didn't get in until his 8th try, so there's still hope. I saw the Mando Mercs at SW celebration 2015, looked like one of the more fun groups to be in. I can definitely see why you'd be excited about your first meet up with them!
That's a great idea, MommyHoldMe! Looking forward to that discussion! Valkaryie, that sounds like a pretty sweet get up, plus the themes seem to compliment each other, to me, at least. Out of curiosity, what is auto mail? Thinking about making a costume myself, but still scavenging for ideas to work with. |

Its from the Full Metal Alchemist anime.
It is a metallic prosthetic limb that is attached to the nerves via nerve endings. Very similar to the Star Wars idea of robotic limbs. Because of this similarity I was planning to create a japanese samurai armor set that resembles the star wars themes. And with the beautifully crafted katana lightsaber to match it. Although very unsure if i will receive the lightsaber in time with Anime Expo. Here is a the automail for reference and the anime picture in which i got inspiration from.
