Apprentice Sabers are now $75 without electronics as opposed to $49. But this is only for the apprentice sabers, the Elite sabers are holding steady at $149. Just thought y'all would like to know.

I don't really know. Something to do with covering the cost of the expansions and improvements, probably, but all I know is that Knytiri said prices were going up awhile back, and I had just hoped that it wouldn't be before I bought one to do an install on. It's about the cost of the new 12w+ LEDs which are now standard. So really, nothing's changed. You just don't get the old 12w.

Think of it as supporting our favorite Saber company and the new "plus" LEDs.
 I imagine that in the future the other Apprentice and Elite sabers will follow soon. |

I don't get any "+" on my LED if I don't get any LED (Initiate Tier). But hey, the hilts are still worth the price. I think. Gonna do some soul (and wallet) searching, and update the list of Things I'll Need To Build A Lightsaber.
I hope the Elite sabers don't go up in price. I was actually planning to get an Exalted at some point in time. |

Sorry to disappoint Ryan-Rising, but it would appear that prices for Elite sabers go up $16 with any tier above Initiate. The Initiate tiers are still $149 (for now).

Looks like I choose a pretty good time to begin wiring my hilts myself. I was questioning whether it made $ sense to get the components separately as prices were close to being commensurate for having SF do it. Now the margins are a bit more comfortable.

Meh, after my first saber I really am planning to just do the installs myself. So I'm good with that. Thanks for letting me know though. |

where do you buy your components from? I have been looking for a good place to get some tri leds and etsy seems the best bet so far.
I buy premade. My soldering skills are nascent.

I've recently built a computer, so perhaps I could handle doing my own installs, as well. I too am curious as to where you buy your parts, h2soy. Do you just buy from TCSS, or some secret Etsy shop, or what? |

Mostly ebay and TCSS. Ebay has a number of Chinese vendors who sell electronic components CHEAP (latching switches, recharge ports) . Batteries I've sourced from TCSS and batteryjunction. Batteries have been the hardest to track down when TCSS is sold out. LEDs I've ordered directly from SF because I'm familiar with their colors and appreciate that they come pre-resistored. Soldering stuff I got from Fry's Electronics but I got my soldering station from Amazon since they're cheapest (?) there. Total startup costs (materials and tools to solder) were about $100. There's a ton of vids out there to get started; TCSS Channel, Shameem's Install Vid . On average I think you recoup startup costs and it becomes cheaper to wire once you hit hilt four.

I don't mind at all that prices went up.
I am very excited to order a Bastion in red. I don't think I could ever justify buying above Warrior tier now though. I know, its just a few more bucks, but It was hard to justify before. |

I hear you friend. Priorities first always. I have a champion tier saber on order now but the DIY route a little at a time is becoming more and more appealing to me. Not shocked by the price increase though, it's actually been a pretty good amount of time since it was first announced by Knytiri. |
