Does anyone feels as though The Bation's deep vented socket will reduce base flare and make for one of Saberforge's most evenly lite blades?

Not really. Base flair has more to do with the brightness of the LED and the angle/type of optics used with it.

EDIT: The Viper and the Venom have a deeper socket with windows, and their blades aren't any more evenly lit than others.

Hi Kjarr,

I have seen a video by John Scaro on YouTube showing his Bastion Saber and it does look to have slightly less base flare. However this is based on a video and may look different in reality.
Here is the video so you can make your own decision. He ignites it at 5:25 secs into the video.

Hope this is of use,

I don't think base flair is as much a thing with the 12w+ LEDs as it was with the regular 12w that they replaced. That said, I am not sure the presence or absence of Windows on the emitter ever had a noticeable effect, one way or the other.
Imagine what you will know tomorrow....

Hi Everyone,

There is some validity to the theory about focusing lenses and light sources, however you will still get some "flaring" effect whatever light source we are talking about. In the theatre and film industry they have lighting units that channel the light given off down a piece of tubing to create a narrow beam of light (called Followspots). Even with these light units as soon as the beam exits the tubing it spreads outwards into what we call flare.Even though light travels in straight lines not all of the light given off by the LED travels parallel, some particles are discharged at different angles and ricochets down the blade/socket until it reaches the mouth of the emitter then escapes to form flare.

The Bastion will contain most of the light and a portion will escape through the windows but you will still have flare at the base, though it may be less noticeable as it will merge with the escaping light from the windows (which create flares of their own).

So maybe it's safe to say that The Bastion's emitter windows will eat up some of the innate base flare?

Hi Kjarr,

From what I have seen in the video maybe. As I say though the camera can alter how the blade looks but it appears as though the flare isn't as bulbous as on other models.

Jabiscaro has a review of his Saber here on the forum, I will provide the link here:

Jabiscaro's Bastion Review

Maybe you can check it out and possibly contact him for his opinion further.

I hope this helps,

Just got my first SF 12W (Deep Blue) today. I tossed it into an US hilt with windows, and definite base flare on a TCSS show blade. Less on the US/SF blades (as they're heavier combat blades)

Edit: Confirmed the same with the Light blue 12W. Should be mild on the SF blades.

IMO, a deep Emitter socket (without windows) will reduce base flare when illuminated through a V4. When windows are present (generous or subtle) base flare is inevitable (unless the illumination output is significantly reduced) as the channelled light 'bleeds' and floods through said windows. Even with the smaller windows around the Bastion Emitter, the untamed light floods through the succession of said windows. Whilst image capture is an inaccurate representation to what is actually seen, MHM's Bastion has it.

For example, Deep Blue GrandMaster Flair.

But, whilst base flare happens, as Kered inquisitively raised, is it a bad occurrence?
Base Flare, you either love it or you hate it, providing an evenly lit blade is still achieved...
