I honestly don't think it'll ever happen. There's some money to be made in the move, sure, but Disney isn't primarily focused on the older generation of Star Wars fans; they're dedicated to creating a NEW generation of Star Wars fans. I don't think we'll see any revisits or re-releases of the prequels or original trilogy, as Disney wasn't involved in their handling and distribution. I think they'll want to keep them slightly separate, as if to say "This is what Star Wars was, and this is what it is now."

That being said, I don't mind. I'm young enough that I never watched the uneditted versions of Star Wars (LE GASPE!) and grew up on the special editions. And they're how I first watched and fell in love with the films and universe, and so they're what I like. I have zero desire to watch the uneditted ones... because... why? To see crappier computer animated effects and video editting? Blah. BLAH! The prequels aren't even THAT bad, honestly. I mean, yeah. Midichlorians? Wtf. And Jar Jar needs to be hung from the nearest tree post haste. And some of the script writers for those movies should have never been allowed near a script to begin with, as I'm pretty sure I could have done a far better job.. when I was 13. (which was how old i was when episode 1 came out.)

So... yeah. I'm happy with what we have, but I understand at the same time, others' want of the uneditted for nostalgia or whathaveyou, but at the same time, the undertaking would cost Disney a few million dollars to do so, distribute, and I don't think the return they would see would equal the cost, so I have serious doubts it'll ever come to pass. But. You never know....

~ Difficult to see. Always in motion, is the future.

Based on Disney's recent releases, in about 50 years or so they'll remake the entire series (up to the current point, at least), but it'll all be one movie, told from Vader's point of view. It'll turn out he was a good guy all along, who LET Luke blow up the Death Star because he didn't want the Empire to kill millions of people, and he actually MEANT IT at the end of Empire when he wanted Luke to help him overthrow the Emperor. HE JUST WANTED TO GET TO KNOW HIS SON, OKAY? :P

I ain't even mad about midichlorians. It's an allowable (if somewhat hazily thought out) explanation of how Force sensitivity works. Though I long ago decided to think of them not as "what makes up the Force" but "what enables you to manipulate the Force", so my view may be somewhat skewed.

As for Jar Jar... re-watching the prequels last weekend only served to remind me that Jar Jar is actually a necessary character. Jar Jar is a baffoon because that's what his place in the story called for; someone (with a good heart, mind you) who would be easily swayed by Palpatine's schemes into handing the keys to the Republic to the Sith, without even realizing it. It was Jar Jar who moved to give Palps the Emergency Powers that allowed him to eventually become Emperor, after all. So, in that light, Jar Jar, while still annoying, is at least forgivable (for his inclusion, if not his characterization).
And some of the script writers for those movies should have never been allowed near a script to begin with, as I'm pretty sure I could have done a far better job.. when I was 13. (which was how old i was when episode 1 came out.)

AHEMGEORGELUCASAHEM (The man can direct like no one's business, and he's got a great imagination for coming up with stories... but his writing, especially the dialog, is stiffer than C3PO's elbows.)

As it turned out, Jar-Jar's main contribution as the buffoon he is, was to allow himself to be talked into helping Palpatine create the "Grand Army of the Republic". This was Palpatine's plan all along of course, because it was necessary to create the war that would ultimately cement his role as the eventual Emperor. He could never have manipulated Padme' that way, and while he would have found SOMEONE do make the proposal, the fact that it was Jar-Jar made it even more tragic. The real tragedy, was that there was never any acknowledgement of it down the line. So, if you did not catch the significance of it at the time, it was the one pertinent Jar-Jar moment you missed.

As for not really caring about seeing the unedited version, I get that. But if you have never seen the Han vs. Greedo scene as it was originally done (and as it should have been left), you missed out on a moment that I think defines Han Solo's character as he truly is. Someone who can do the right thing, even if he does not always do it...but he will kill you if his own life is threatened. That is exactly what it was, and what it showed. The fact that George felt that was a little too harsh, and had to dumb it down for the kiddies just burns my ass like a three foot flame! Not to mention it was a little hypocritical, since he left the severed, bloody limb of Ponda Bobba filling the screen just a few minutes later, which was worse for the kiddies!

OK, I could go on, but suffice to say I love Star Wars, and accept both versions. I just have issues with some things that were done, more than others.
Imagine what you will know tomorrow....

Eh.... Arguably the original cuts have better visual and structural integrity since they don't have ANY CGI (other than the Death Star plans) and don't have the scenes that were cut that didn't service the plot. This is most felt w/a New Hope. I'm 100% onboard with the changes to TESB and the changes in ROTJ up to the Vader/Hayden force spirit debacle.

I was being more sarcastic and facetious than you guys seem to think I was lol. As to why I don't have much interest in watching the unedited ones anyway. =P see what happens when I try to be silly? Lol

The problem is that, other than X-Men, Fox has proven time, and again that these comic properties belong in the hands of Marvel/Disney.

I would take the other than X-Men comment out. They are at best 50% success on doing well with X-Men and that's being generous. If Disney bought Fox outright so many dreams could come through. Though I'd be happy with a deal comparable to what Sony is doing with Spider-Man. For both comics and Star Wars.

Strategic placement of silly, otherwise useless emoticons could have cleared that question up quick, fast, and in a hurry! :side: :silly: ;) See what I did there?

Knytiri, Knytiri, Knytiri. Don't nerd bait us w/the Lucas edits! We may have to forcibly relocate you to be a mod on the "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" forum. You're on thin ice mister.

Hahaha... brax, when I'm on mobile emoticons are a huge PITA both to post and view, so I tend to avoid em most of the time lol. I thought the BLAH was close enough.. ;)

And you just go right ahead and try it, h2! You'll get no where so fast. Lol

I always fergit about you young folks, and yer new fangled mobile devices!

I have tried to browse this forum, and others using Safari, and while I don't mind reading (other than the pizza pie sized emoticons), and don't much care for posting with it. Takes some real concentration to make sure you are even in the right field on the screen. So, I tend to do most of my posting from my old fashioned computer. I like my 27" screen, and my full sized keyboard. I know as a mod, you probably have to spend more time here than I do, so I understand using whatever you got, wherever you are.
