I saw it on the weekend in 3D. I never saw the original trilogy in the theatre, they were before my spawning out into the world. I watched them (REPEATEDLY) on VHS as a child and was blown away by them, particularly the tense saber battles.

I went in skeptical that Disney could achieve what the original trilogy did. But oh man did they shatter that skepticism! I was absorbed full Force( dadum dish!) into the movie just like I was when I saw watched the VHS cassettes as a kid and I loved every moment of it.

Yes, it's not a super plot heavy movie. Show me a Star Wars movie that is. I can wait. It's that old school 'Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon' actiony plot that really sucked me in and the interaction between the characters. It's the little things read between the lines in what the characters say that I liked so much. The little details that are hard to catch.

To be honest, watching episode 7 took me straight back to that 9 year old self that saw watched the originals for the first time. Loved it all, and I would easily go see it a second time in the theatre should I get an opportunity.

There were a few little things I was a bit nit picky about, but it's mostly that I'm still butt hurt from seeing the EU get tossed out the window. I sure hope Disney comes up with some awesome stuff to fill that void, cause I'm looking at a large bookshelf full of EU books that suddenly are not relevant in terms of contents to the Star Wars universe. Still, most are good reads at least.

But yeah, definitely loved it and I am definitely impatient for Episode VIII

I just saw it for the second time today, and I'll be damn if It did not get better. I just enjoyed it so much more on that 2nd ride.

I am planning a 3rd viewing just as soon as I can. I noticed things in the 2nd viewing which just whizzed by me the first time, and I have no doubt that there are still plenty of subtle things to experience in a 3rd, and possibly 4th viewing. Yeah, I know it sounds nutty, but I want to see it as many times, with as many of my friends who feel the same way about it as I do, as I can before it leaves the theater and the wait begins for the Blu-Ray release.

Maybe you might be able to spot my motion capture shot of C-3PO in the film. Maybe not... =) And yes, there IS only one shot in the entire film that I did a MoCap session that ended up in the film as C-3PO. Uncredited, but apart of the film non the less.

I will watch for it the next time! How would I know it from a practical shot with Anthony Daniels wearing the costume?

If I had to guess based on my three viewings thus far, there is a far away shot of 3PO in the landing area of the resistance base. Since it was not a close up, and there was no dialog, I cannot help but wonder now.

You'd think it would be a distance shot, but it's actually a closer and a more prominent shot than you'd expect. It's near the end of the film. The fact that you can't tell the difference means ILM did it right. =P

I saw it in 3-D and I honestly feels like it throws off the size and distance scale and just sports distracts and makes it difficult to follow the action

I prefer 2D myself, but suffered through a second screening in 3D because family wanted to see it with Dolby ATMOS. That being said, were your eye's hurting after the Jungle Book trailer in 3D? That looked like a total mess in 3D.

The last 3D movie I saw in theaters was Pacific Rim and I swore off the format after that.

Not sure if this is a question you can answer tech-droid (for reasons of discretion or whatevs), but why didn't Anthony Daniels suite up for the whole thing (he seems pretty spry)? I noticed that C3PO seemed a bit wider around the torso in a shot or two.
Wish List: Count, Insurgent, Regal, Legacy 2.0
