I just ordered an empty Prodigal Son and a Vader's Vault blade. Now I'm gonna send it to Shameem for the installation when he is available. What are all of your opinions on what I should put in it?

@Goon Hey bud, I can't say how to do it. I have no clue, but someone who does may need a loose price range. Seems the prices will dictate much of it

I have priced this out. For a decent entry level chip, not top of the line, but not bottom end, plus the parts to add buttons, led, etc with a single color blade, you are looking at 140-150 dollars.

If you want to do it yourself and don't have the tools, you are looking at another 30-35 dollars for basic tools.

Have you done it b4? If so how intricate are the movements? I have nerve dmg so my arm decides what I do and I react, trying to find out if it is even possible for me to do it.

For the sound board, I personally keep debating on what I'm gonna build in my ASP custom. Now that I've received my Hero tier Fury I have an idea on which features I want and do not really use, so it really depends on how much you're planning to bling your saber out. Here's what I'd do, personally:

-I'm now realizing that I would probably prefer 12W+ as opposed to RGBA, so having color mixing is not necessary.
-I have a joke font, a light side font, and a dark side font. The rest seem extra and I rarely touch them, so I know I only need 2-3 sound fonts.
-For the PS I'd see if it's possible to put 2 accent LEDs in the control box to power the red and green arrows.

For these criteria I think the Spark 2 board works perfectly (but leaves little room for future expansion.) It's only 79.99 for the board.

A good way to choose a board if you're looking for something else is to use this Plecter Labs comparison chart: http://plecterlabs.com/Media/Doc/CompareBoards/plecter_boards.php

Naigon's has 3 boards at the moment as well, the Spark 2, the Spark Color 2 (SF Hero Tier), and the even fancier Igniter 2. You'll have to compare Plecter Labs and Naigon's to decide which fits best for you.

I've never ordered from Shameem before, but I think he likes to figure out exactly what you want by talking to you before he starts his work. At least, that's the impression I got from his Youtube videos. If you have any questions he'll be more able to tell you exactly what you need or don't need based on your final vision.

Great discussion, I'm curious about this too. Someday I wouldn't mind buying an empty hilt and having a saber smith do an install.

I have not done it myself, however here is a youtube vid of someone adding sound/light to a SF saber

I am going to go with the NEC Spark 2, and not the nbv3 so I can have basic sounds, and blade lockup and blaster deflection.

For the LED, I don't know whether to go with a Tri-rebel G/G/G or a 12w+. I'm going to use FLICKER on clash, since the LED used for FOC degrades from the original blade brightness. What do you guys think?
Also, with my order, I requested that Saberforge makes the accent LED windows clear, instead of painted on, so I will be emailing them if they could do that for me or not.

Decide what features you want and that will guide what board you should get. Some key decisions are:

- # of sound fonts
- Color mixing: yes/no
- Flash on Clash
- Blaster deflection and other aux type features.
- # of switch holes in the hilt. Eg if you have 2 holes and you want features that require an aux switch, both holes are filled. If you want a recharge port too you'll have to drill another hole or put the port inside the hilt, requiring you to pull out the guts to recharge.
