Hi there,

today I finally got my new redeemer. Wait time was 4 month.

Maybe my question is kind of stupid, but:

How do I remove the kill key?

It's a champion edition redeemer.

Is it stuck? You should be able to simply pull it out.

Slide up the card on the activation box. That will reveal the recharge port with the kill key. It can be tough to get out with your fingers. I just grabbed it with a pair of needlenose pliers.

The redeemer has no illuminated av switch so once I got it out I said the hell with it. I never use it.

Feuergeist,
A slight twist and pull or just pull should work regardless of the older style knurled Kill Keys or the newer SF Logo ones.

The Redeemer is no longer like that. I got one last week and they now have the prodigal son style hidden recharge port under the activation box card.

Which is awesome for anyone buying the new style that I've seen from people placing orders from Feb that are currently receiving theirs. The Redeemer is now more screen accurate with proper greeblies on the side instead of a dummy switch and kill key.

They look like this now (pic stolen from FB group post)

So yes. As mentioned, the new Redeemers now have sliding cards with hidden kill keys, the same as the Prodigal Son.

The design has some drawbacks. For one the kill key itself isn't that easy to get out, especially if you have big sausage fingers like I do. The activation card could be done better as well. On the old model the card was glued onto the activation button so it stayed in place. Now it has to slide up and down so it isn't glued down and his held in place by nothing but the friction between the card and the sides of the control box. So if you get a card that's been cut slightly small you're going to have your activation card basically flopping around all the time. And even if it is held in place it still doesn't feel as secure as it did before. Personally I liked the old way better. It might not have been as screen accurate, but it was better as far as functionality goes.

Interesting update. New Kill Keys, New Apprentice Plugs and a New Redeemer Design. With these (known) recent changes it appears SaberForge is now accelerating at higher speeds. Many more promising News to come I'm sure.

New apprentice plugs? How did I miss this?! Are there pictures anywhere?

I've heard that some people are using magnetic tape to solve the slide away problem of the activation card. It's apparently a good fix, and wouldn't be a bad idea for all you New Redeemer and Prodigal Son owners to email SF CSR and let them know. Maybe they will add that to their production and not leave it up to the consumer to do RD, since it's a fairly cheap easy fix.

Ive done the magnetic tape fix. It does work, sort of. It still isn't as secure as when it was glued to the activation button. It can still move during spinning or dueling. It should have been left the way it was. It worked fine and there was no great outcry among the customers to change it. That being said, it does look more screen accurate. But the sliding card system just will never be as good. If saberforge is determined to go that route having the kill key/recharge port hidden in the control box I would go for some kind of latching system on the activation card, where it's bracketed in on the top and bottom and releasable on the bottom so it essentially flips up to reveal the recharge port. Then snaps closed when done.

Nice; I didn't realise that the kill key under the activation box was standard on the Redeemer now, as that was a customisation I wanted to add to mine (haven't ordered one yet; starting my collection with the Prodigal Son I'm currently waiting on).

Even without a lit AV switch the board will still draw power when the saber is off without the kill key inserted.

The drain would be minimal though wouldn't it?

I've actually wondered this same question. Has anyone done a "field study" to see how much of a drain it would be?

Definitely minimal. Certainly nothing compared to the draw of an always on AV switch and on my sabers with AV switches I do indeed use the kill key. I would use it on the redeemer as well if it wasn't such a pain in the ass to get out. But since it is, I don't bother with it. Who cares whether it drains a tiny bit faster, its not like I cant just put it on the charger whenever I feel like it.

I meant my originally post as more of a PSA for those who didn't know. Yes the drain is minimal, and the Panasonic 18650's SF uses have pretty good lifespans (up to 2000 cycles with proper charging habits). I'm just kinda anal with my rechargeable batteries.
