Is there a point to just buy into the Kickstarter and just make my own prodigal son that way? Or do those parts have other implications/not have the parts for full sets like the prodigal son?

Yep. Thing is, no one could have foreseen the truly mammoth surge in interest and sheer weight of orders that would come in on the back of it this year.
That combined with the whole business expanding, and all the issues that go with it. As well as staff leaving and hiring and training new people.
So they're doing great to have ridden all this and still keep churning out the quality we see here.

Our part of the bargain is we just gotta be patient!!
