Gladiator | Crystal Reveal Gladius 12Watt+ Medium Red

Another showcase from the Crystal Reveal Series from Saberforge.
This Hilt began its journey as a V2 Weathered Finish Hilt (like CR JF and Reliant) that was then stripped, sanded and cleaned, integrating a shiny Dual Tone result.
Received this back in October so this share may be considered late and an oldie..

A countersunk, bevelled blade socket featuring multiple holes around the inner circumference as part of a detailed design.

The design intricacies are continued around the Emitter and into the two accents grooves along the neckline.

Single Blade retention setscrew and single LED retention setscrew.

Front and back of the Switch Section.

The Crystal Chamber revealed by two oval milled windows embedded into the centre choke between the wrapped grip and switch section.
Two brass rods encage a large quartz crystal.

Dark Red leather wrap.

The factory V2 Covertech wheel and Pommel.

Some Specs and Measurements:
Quad Cree 12Watt+ Medium Red| Champion Tier| Sabercore2.0 Crimson Font

Hilt Length: 260mm
Blade Socket Depth: 43mm
Emitter Flange Diameter: 57.11mm
Hilt Diameter: 38.07mm

Weight: 525 grams

Three Gladius Emitters.

Shadow Hunter| Xiphos (Gladius Gen 1) | Gladiator (Crystal Gladius Gen 2)

Top to bottom:
Deep Red, Medium Red, Red.

Observing the differences.
Equally as comfortable to Xiphos that demonstrates great balance either as a single or dual hand wielding hilt. With the latter, primary hand rests high just under the flared emitter which mimics nicely as a guard or tsuba with the secondary hand gripping the wrapped section of the body. Switch them as a southpaw and it’s easily adaptable. The detailing on Gladiator with the open crystal chamber and recessed accent lines adds to the overall aesthetics in a positive way. Pretty to look at polished, pretty to handle with confidence.

The Prizes of Illum.
*In my book, Descent doesn’t count as it’s a Crystal Blade Plug.
Then there are a whole other string of Crystal Limited Editions like CR Fallen, CR Guardian & CR Princess were born from. ASP one day may release the Chamber Parts and Legacy & Customs will spawn a whole other arc as well.

Difficult to keep up. These are what I have (that made the picture).

Top2Bottom (left/right):
CR V2 Redeemer| CR V2 Prodigal Son| CR V1 Exalted| CR Ares| CR V1 Redeemer| CR Princess|
CR Guardian| CR V2 Custom Exalted| CR Custom Monarch| CR Jade Fire| CR Fallen| CR Gladiator

With the inclusion of Gladiator, it rounds of my Collection of SF Crystal Sabers Standard offered…
(*not all of them).

Or does it?

It looks more "orangy" in person than on camera. I can barely tell the difference between it and the Red in my Vanquish. Personally, I would say go for Medium Red if you're looking to take good photos, and Deep Red if you want a true red in-person.

 Love & Hate. Light & Dark. Like the Force, there is balance.
Agreed, difficult to deny Custom Monarch as a favourite too. Bit of a distance exists when comparing those that come after it.

Just a little bit. There's something about the distraction by lights.

Thank you DK. Differences and each their own with colour perception I guess. As KelbornX writes, virtually identical for him between standard Red and Medium Red but IMO, there is a difference. Igniting them one after the other for a sideBYside and they kinda flood together. Much like igniting Deep Red next to a standard Red and the latter may as well be Red Orange. Igniting them separately creates the distinction (for me).

I realize now there is one big advantage with V2 weathered versions by SF. You can always de-weather it if you get tired of the weathered look! It looks so shiny, the underlying chemistry of the weathering process can be eroded quite easily then. Did you unplug any electronics during the de-weathering process?

Whilst your comment has truth to it, regardless of V2 or 3, all black or all silver (as the primary finish options available before the introduction of the custom powdercoats), it works both ways, so the advantage isn't really a big one. Yes, the finish can be removed resulting in a cleanskin but taking a V1 (DT) and weathering it can be equally and easily achieved too.

The shiny result is a finishing process consisting of polishing compound (kinda like cut n buffing your car), if you will, after the gradual sanding with varying grit paper.
Did you unplug any electronics during the de-weathering process?
Not really, No.
Since I ain't proficient at DIY installs, whilst I can rigorously gut a hilt without a surgeons finesse, I wouldn't be able to make it right again afterwards. :P With Hilts that have a QC LED module, I do make a habit of removing it and tape up the connectors. Any vents or windows have the same applied too. Pommel is usually removed, packed and taped and screwed back on again simply to prevent any residual sanding dust from attracting to the speaker. Setscrews because of their size will be removed so they don't get lost and a film of tape is placed over the hole down the blade holder. I'll either then keep a 'work' plug in or insert a 'work' blade as the rotisserie handle.

EDIT: There is one exception with the one ASP Sound Kit I own that would see all electronics completely removed when making cosmetic alterations as part of the personalisation process.

Lots of tape gets used. I use the blue painters tape (or masking tape depending on what's available to you) similar to the blue tape that's bound over the bubble wrap when inbound from SF but in smaller widths. :)

Beautiful work you've done! Thanks for all the great detail shots.

Especially cool to see the different Gladius-style hilts all together like that.

 Thank you. Spam Posting pictures and letting them tell the words is sometimes easier than constructing the words them self. It may be the first acquisition to each respective Owner of the various hilts around but seldom are they the first ever and only one in existence. There's only so much one can describe that hasn't been described before. :)
