Users report .exe files on SD cards bundled with budget Proffie sabers

Source: The Crucible (ProffieOS forum), community thread, Aug 20, 2026

Community members on the ProffieOS forum report Windows executable files hidden in sound font folders on SD cards that shipped with some marketplace Proffieboards and preloaded sabers. These are user reports, not a vendor or security-firm finding.

A thread opened on 20 August on The Crucible, the ProffieOS community forum, reports Windows executable (.exe) files inside sound font folders on SD cards that came with some budget sabers and Proffieboards [1]. This rests on one forum thread of user reports. No vendor or security firm has confirmed it, so treat it as an unverified community warning.

What the thread says

The opening post says Chinese-made sabers preloaded with many fonts, and SD cards supplied with Proffie boards, were found to contain .exe files, and that the issue had been discussed in Japan some months earlier [1]. Several replies describe similar cards bought with marketplace boards, and some say Windows Defender flagged the files as an old trojan or worm [1]. One reply notes that the board firmware does not run files from the card, so the risk is to the computer that reads it, not to the saber [1].

Why it matters

Sound fonts are plain audio and config files. A font folder should never hold an executable. If you buy a board or saber with a card full of fonts, the risk comes when you plug the card into a PC and open something by mistake. Windows hides file extensions by default, which makes a disguised file easier to open.

What to do

  • Do not open files from a card you did not format yourself.
  • Turn on file extensions in your file manager and look for .exe or autorun files before copying anything.
  • Scan the card with up-to-date antivirus, or reformat it and load fonts from a source you trust.
  • Prefer boards and sabers sold by established vendors, and see Lightsaber soundboards and the tech hub for how boards and cards fit together.

The thread does not name a verified seller or a specific malware family. Until someone publishes samples or analysis, the scale of the problem is unknown.
