Savi's Workshop lightsabers get new effects and a white and gold hilt theme
Source: Inside the Magic, Oct 5, 2026
Disney's build-your-own lightsaber experience at Galaxy's Edge added a new Protection and Defense hilt design and new blade effects on 5 October 2026. Every saber built there now has the upgraded chassis.

Per Inside the Magic and Disney Dining, both on 5 October 2026, Disney updated the Savi’s Workshop lightsaber-building experience at Disneyland Park in California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida. The changes took effect immediately [1][2].
What changed
The Protection and Defense hilt theme has a new series with white finishes and gold detailing, described as drawing on the High Republic era. Both outlets report it as the second hilt theme to reach a third generation, after the Power and Control theme in May 2026 [1][2].
The bigger change applies to every saber, whatever hilt theme the guest picks. The reports list a thermal cutting effect, deflection effects, a spinning effect, upgraded audio and smoother blade activation [1][2].
A “cracked” kyber crystal option was also reported. Paired with the saber, it changes the blade from blue to red with a flick of the wrist [1][2].
Price and booking
Neither article gives a price, and we have not confirmed one from Disney. One other outlet in our search gave a figure, but it conflicts with older listings, so treat any price as (unverified) until you see Disney’s booking page. Reports say a saber purchase is required to take part and that advance reservations are recommended [1].
Why it matters to a buyer
Savi’s Workshop sabers are theme park products, built from a fixed set of parts during a guided session. They sit in a different category from the open-market sabers in our best lightsaber guide and the neopixel lightsaber guide, where you choose the blade tech and soundboard yourself. The new effects list is a spec sheet written by Disney’s press side, so no independent comparison of the third generation exists yet. We have not handled one.
If you are weighing a park build against a hobbyist saber, compare the price, the effects list and whether you want to swap parts later. Park builds are a sealed experience, while a build from a parts list can be repaired and upgraded piece by piece.
What to do
If you already own an earlier Savi’s saber, check Disney’s own channels before assuming an upgrade path exists. The reports describe new builds, and we found no statement about retrofitting older sabers. If you plan a trip, book ahead and confirm the current price on Disney’s site.
