Hey there.
I am pretty new to the forums but I have lurked on the SF website for quite a while and there are one or two things that I miss:
1. Double-bladed sabers, they just look goddamn awesome.
2. If that's not an option, I would love a "quick connect" coupler so I can quickly connect two sabers together without having to unscrew the pommel, then screw them togetjer with a coupler etc... I just love the quick connect that Asaij Ventress does, for example

Most sabers from SF, with the addition of a coupler, can be made into a staff. To be sure, there are some models that lend themselves to this purpose, better than others. Sabers such as the Grand Master (or the Legacy version of it) come to mind.

Imagine what you will know tomorrow....

Usually, it says on the store page if a hilt isn’t compatible with asp parts or couplers. The rest are good to go.

Yeah, I already saw that it worked that way.
But I know myself and I am rather indecisive so I would love the possibility to couple or uncouple my two one-handed sabers within a few seconds to change styles quickly...

Patience padawan. How many more "few seconds" are required to remove a couple of pommels??? Surely no one's life is that busy....

I believe he means he would like the option to split the saber into two during a duel if need be, sort of like the toy ones you can buy in Walmart and then the added coupler you can buy online. I would personally love this.

maybe you can outsource to someone who has a 3D printer and have a custom quick release coupler made to go into your sabers?

Usually not but maybe I want to switch from dual blade to 2 one-handed in the course of the duel? Fighting 1 enemy with a dual blade is fine, if there are more it gets harder, being able to split the blade in battle would be great!

Some people who are into complex spinning have also been known to go between staff to split hilts and back again in a routine. Having to stop and unscrew a coupler and screw on pommels would kind of kill the mood. ;)

How about an interrupted thread type coupler.

Yeah, something like that. I just don't now how secure that would be.

Is there anyone proficient in making 3D models for printers who could design a quick coupler to give to a local blacksmith or to 3D print out of durable material?

My external waterloop for the computer uses quick connect couplers that are pretty darn awesome.

It's a spring-loaded design where you have to push the two parts together, then rotate 90 degrees and they lock.
To pull them apart, you push together, rotate back and they release.

This would be AWESOME on the staff.

But, that part for the watercooling was 40$, so I would expect this to be 70+ for a lightsaber..

I guess that part could be re-worked into a quick coupler for the saber or worked into another design

What material is it made from?

It's made from stainless steel that's nickel coated, if I'm not mistaken.
This is one end: http://koolance.com/vl3-quick-disconnect-coupling-female-for-13mm-x-16mm-1-2in-x-5-8in

Both ends (male and female) have the threads to get that cap on that holds the tube (although, mine was 10mm ID)

If you want to try to fabricate something, I'll fetch them for you and you can have them for 10€ (a pair) plus shipping. (Should be able to mail it in an envelope.. from Switzerland, that shouldn't cost too much)

I guess these will be available on the internet so I will order them only after I got my sword. Which will, tbh, take a while to acquire
If you could PM me the link where you acquired them?

I bought them on Aquatuning, but that was 7 years ago. They still offer a nice selection of quick disconnects (Schnellkupplung), but not the ones I have.

They did, however, seem to have copied the design for their own brand.

If you want to adapt something off-the-shelf, then there is a quick release coupling commonly used for air hoses that you can get in several diameters:

Air hose couplers

or as quick disconnects for garden hoses:

Hose quick disconnect

If you want to incorporate a coupler into a custom-machined design, I think a bayonet mount would work well. I think you would want 3 or 4 pins for stability:

Bayonet mounts

Bayonet mount is exactly what I was thinking of!

Hey... Why don't you tell me that before.

That's exactly what I tried to describe before.. "springloaded, push and rotate".. that's a bayonet mount :D
