Per Engadget on 14 August, The Mandalorian and Grogu arrives on Disney+ on 2 September, roughly three months after its theatrical release at the end of May [1]. Wikipedia lists the digital release as 21 July, 4K, Blu-ray and DVD as 25 August, and Disney+ as 2 September [2].

The lightsaber angle comes from entertainment press, not from Lucasfilm. 3DVF reported on 28 May that no lightsaber appears on screen, and that the Darksaber is also absent [3]. Search results show other entertainment outlets making the same claim, but that wording came from a summary and we did not read each article. Treat “first theatrical Star Wars film without a lightsaber” as widely reported, not officially confirmed. Our own film file for this title also lists lightsabers as unverified.

Why it matters to a buyer or builder

If you were hoping for a new saber design from this film, the reports say there is none to copy. Check every lightsaber by film for where each saber type appeared, and the crossguard and double-bladed guides for variants that did appear in screen use.

What to do

You can now watch the film at home and check for yourself. If a shop sells a “Mandalorian and Grogu lightsaber”, ask which screen appearance the design comes from. Do not pay a premium for a film tie-in that, per the reports, has no basis on screen.
