Short answer

A custom lightsaber is usually a made-to-order saber you configure online: hilt, electronics, blade, finish and sound. Makers state lead times from a few days to 20 weeks, and listed prices run from about $180 to over $700 as of November 2026. Check the warranty, the cancellation terms and what voids both.

A custom lightsaber is a saber assembled to your choices instead of pulled from a shelf. In practice that means a configurator on a maker’s site, where you pick the hilt, electronics, blade length, finish and sound, and the maker builds it. Lead times in the sources below run from 10 days to 20 weeks, and listed prices from $180 to over $700 as of November 2026 [1][2][5][8].

What custom means

“Custom” is not a protected term. Sellers use it for four different things, and the price and risk differ for each [1][4][7][8].

  1. Configured to order. You choose from a fixed menu of parts online and the maker assembles the saber. Ultrasabers and Sabertrio both describe this [1][4].
  2. Ready-made with options. The model is fixed. You pick electronics tier and blade length at checkout. The Saber Factory and Artsabers list their models this way [8][9].
  3. Assembled by you from a kit. At Savi’s Workshop in Disneyland Park you pick a hilt theme, a crystal colour and parts from a box, then a staff member fits a 31 inch blade [7]. It is a paid experience, and the saber is nonrefundable [7].
  4. Commissioned or built yourself. An independent maker builds to your drawing, or you buy parts. No individual commission maker was reviewed for this page, so none is named. For the build route, read build your own lightsaber and the lightsaber parts list.

If you already own a saber and only want to change its look, customize a lightsaber hilt covers that.

Build to order configurators

A configurator is a set of menus. The maker’s page tells you what it lets you change.

Ultrasabers describes a custom lightsaber builder where you mix components, a “build by part” route and a Saber Wizard tool [1]. Its guide lists hilt, emitter, blade, pommel and couplers as the core parts [1]. Sabertrio describes its custom sabers as made to order, fully assembled from your selections in its configurator [4].

Not everything combines. Ultrasabers warns that not all hilts are compatible with saber staffs, so check before you build a double-bladed saber [1].

Lead times and how the process works

Every maker below states a lead time. They are estimates, not promises [2].

  • Ultrasabers lists in-stock sabers at 1 to 3 business days. Out-of-stock hilts are on backorder at up to 20 weeks, and the page says that is an estimate with no guarantee [2].
  • Sabertrio lists standard finishes at up to 4 weeks. On its Daemos page, finishes carry lead times of up to 2, 4 or 8 weeks depending on the finish [4][5].
  • Artsabers says its Temple Guard saber ships direct from the factory and arrives in 10 to 14 days [9].

The usual sequence is the same everywhere: you configure, the order enters a build queue, the maker assembles and tests, then it ships. Changing an order late costs time. Sabertrio says its system generates a new work order for even a small change, which resets your place in the queue [6]. Ultrasabers says changes may delay fabrication [2].

In the United States, the FTC’s order rule says a seller needs a reasonable basis for a stated shipping time. If it cannot ship on time, it must offer you the choice to wait or cancel for a prompt refund [10]. The rule is a US rule. Check what applies where you live.

Price tiers

Prices below were read on vendor pages and are listed as of November 2026. Sale prices change, and options change the total.

TierWhat the vendor page listsSource
About $180 to $220Example builds on the Ultrasabers guide: Dark Negotiator $180, Azure Grand Master $205, Princess $220, Darksaber CE v2 $220[1]
About $250Savi’s Workshop build experience, $249.99 plus tax, park admission extra[7]
About $200 to $390Sabertrio Daemos configurations: Neo saber from $310, or from $200 without the Power Core; base-lit FX saber from $315; higher-priced variants up to $390[5]
About $290 to $380The Saber Factory ready-made models at sale price: $289, $319 and $379 on the homepage[8]
About $730Artsabers Temple Guard double-bladed, Proffie 2.2 with Neopixel, $729.99[9]

These are starting points for different products, not a ranking. A $200 saber and a $730 double-bladed saber do not do the same job. Prices for the same listing move with sales, so treat them as a snapshot.

Options to specify

If you want to design your own lightsaber, these are the choices that change price and behaviour. Decide them before opening a configurator.

  • Hilt. Weight, length and diameter. Sabertrio’s Daemos page gives 324 mm (12.75 in) length, 38 mm average diameter and 455 g [5]. Check these against your hand and your use.
  • Board and electronics. Sabertrio sells a “Neo” chassis with a modular Power Core and a base-lit “FX” chassis without Bluetooth at lower prices [5]. The Saber Factory names Xeno3 Baselit, Xeno3 Neopixel and Proffie Neopixel tiers [8]. Artsabers lists Proffie 2.2 as user-programmable [9]. Compare boards in Xenopixel vs Neopixel and the soundboards guide.
  • Blade. Ultrasabers describes midgrade blades as flexing on impact, heavy grade blades with walls about twice as thick, and UltraEdge blades in white polycarbonate [1]. Artsabers says its Neopixel blades are not meant for heavy-impact combat [9]. See baselit vs Neopixel and blade length. Ultrasabers lists 40, 36, 32, 24 and 16 inch lengths [1].
  • Finish. Sabertrio ties lead time to finish: a matte black Dark Edition up to 2 weeks, weathered finishes up to 4 weeks, satin powder-coated finishes up to 8 weeks [5].
  • Sound font. Ultrasabers lists custom sound fonts as an option [1], Artsabers lists 25 fonts on its Temple Guard saber [9]. See sound fonts.
  • Warranty. Compare it as a feature, using the table below.

Comparison of configurator sites

The table repeats what each seller’s own page says. It is not a ranking. For how brands compare, see best lightsaber brands.

How to vet a maker

Start with the maker’s own pages. A review score shown on the maker’s site is not independent evidence.

  1. Find the lead time and the cancellation rule before you pay. Both are on the pages above. If a seller cannot show them, move on [2][6][10].
  2. Read what voids the warranty. Ultrasabers and Sabertrio both void it for tampering or outside repair [3][6]. If you plan to swap boards or open the hilt, that matters.
  3. Check the exclusions, not the length. A 3 year warranty that covers hilts, electronics and Neopixel blades is limited to those parts [8]. Another seller’s warranty excludes damage from misuse [6].
  4. Check return costs. Sabertrio’s return deducts a $25 charge and the original shipping [6]. CCSabers lists a 13% restock fee and asks you to contact it within 3 days [12].
  5. Find a support route. A form, an email, or a chat. Ask a real pre-sale question and see how long the reply takes.
  6. Check tax and customs. Ultrasabers notes extra taxes may apply outside the continental US [2]. Sabertrio ships from Kuala Lumpur and bills in USD [4].

Red flags

  • No stated lead time, or only “ships soon”.
  • A lead time with no stated way to cancel if it slips. In the US, the FTC rule expects an offer to wait or cancel [10].
  • A warranty that is not transferable and voided by any opening of the hilt, with no repair route [3][6].
  • Cancellation that only returns store credit [2].
  • “Dueling ready” claims on blades the same page says are for light dueling [9].
  • Prices that look far under every other listing for the same board and blade.
  • Ranked “best custom lightsaber” lists that show no sources. Several of these showed up in the search results for this keyword on unrelated domains (editorial observation).

Decision steps

  1. Decide the job: display, cosplay, light dueling or heavy dueling. Ultrasabers makes the same point about use before parts [1].
  2. If you want to learn the hobby, look at build your own lightsaber first. If you want it built for you, stay here.
  3. Pick the board and blade: Xenopixel vs Neopixel.
  4. Pick length with blade length.
  5. Compare two or three makers on lead time, warranty exclusions and cancellation, using the table above.
  6. Save the configuration screenshot and the quoted lead time before paying.
  7. If you only need a good ready-made saber, read best lightsaber instead.

FAQ

What is a custom lightsaber?

A saber built or configured to your selections: hilt, electronics, blade, finish and sound. Some sellers use the word for ready-made models with a few options, so read what you can actually change [1][8][9].

How long does a custom lightsaber take?

Vendor pages state anywhere from 10 to 14 days to up to 20 weeks, depending on the model, finish and stock [2][5][9]. Treat the figure as an estimate.

How much does a custom lightsaber cost?

Listed prices read in November 2026 run from $180 to $730 across five sellers, with options changing the total [1][5][8][9]. Add shipping and any tax.

Can I design my own lightsaber hilt from scratch?

Configurators let you choose from the maker’s parts. A fully original hilt means a commission or a self-build; see build your own lightsaber and customize a lightsaber hilt.

Is a custom lightsaber a real lightsaber?

It is a hobby saber with a lit blade. It does not cut, and no sold saber does; see real lightsaber.

What voids the warranty?

Ultrasabers voids it for rewiring or tampering and for transfer to another owner; Sabertrio does for outside repair and non-transfer [3][6].
