The orange lightsaber in canon belongs to Baylan Skoll and his apprentice Shin Hati in the Ahsoka series. Sources describe the blade as orange-red, a deliberate two-tone, not the plain red of the Sith [1][2][3]. Legends used orange for gray Force users [4]. Qimir’s blade in The Acolyte is red, not orange [5].

The Ahsoka series premiered on 22 August 2023 and is set after Return of the Jedi [6]. Orange blades in live action begin there, according to one outlet [3].
Baylan Skoll
Baylan Skoll is a former Jedi who became a mercenary. His single saber has an orange-red kyber blade [1]. He built it as a student in the waning years of the Republic, and the droid Huyang originally helped him [1]. It first appears in the Ahsoka teaser trailer and in Part One, “Master and Apprentice” [1].
The color was a choice. Showrunner Dave Filoni picked orange-red over the Sith’s red. He pointed to Darth Vader’s blade, which can look orange in some shots, and wanted a two-tone blade so viewers would not guess Baylan’s loyalty too early [1]. The handbook reaches the same description: orange-red, a two-level shade [8].
Ray Stevenson played Baylan in the first season, and Rory McCann replaced him in the second after Stevenson’s death in May 2023 [6].
Shin Hati
Shin Hati’s saber has a slim hilt with a white leather grip, a disc-shaped guard and an emitter that ends in three points [2]. It was built under Baylan’s guidance [2]. The blade is orange-red and appears to shift between the two colors without settling [2]. Ivanna Sakhno plays her [6].
Orange or orange-red
Sources disagree here. CBR says Filoni confirmed that the color is orange, not a shade of red [4]. The Archivum pages call it orange-red, and Looper’s Ahsoka coverage also uses orange-red [1][2][3]. The Archivum entry says Filoni wanted a two-tone blade [1].
The likeliest reading is that the blade sits between orange and red and that a camera or a room can push it either way. A page that gives one exact hue is simplifying.
Is Qimir orange
No source opened for this page says so. Wikipedia describes the Stranger, Mae’s master, activating a red lightsaber in the fourth episode, “Day” [5]. The handbook separately records that the color was checked as red, not orange [9]. In episode five his helmet breaks and he is revealed as Qimir [5].
If you have seen “orange Qimir” in a search result, it may be a mix-up with Baylan’s blade (a guess, unverified). The sources here give red, and no primary statement about orange was found.
Orange in Legends and games
CBR says that in Legends, gray Force users, neither Jedi nor Sith, wielded orange sabers, and that Yaddle and Plo Koon used them in non-canon stories [4]. That page also guesses orange blends red and yellow, which is interpretation [4].
Jedi: Fallen Order includes orange, indigo, cyan and magenta blades as options [7].
The Archivum page adds one detail: a saber with a kohlen crystal produces an orange blade, and its low power makes it weak except against kohlen shields [7]. That is a separate crystal rule, not the Baylan explanation.
What orange means
Nothing official. The best sourced reason is a production one: a blade that is neither Jedi blue or green nor Sith red, chosen to keep a character’s allegiance unclear [1][4]. Guides read this as a middle path or being trapped between the sides [4]. That is fan interpretation.
Orange on a real saber
An orange blade on a replica comes from LEDs or pixels. Amber and red-orange are not the same. Lumileds lists amber at 585 to 595 nm and red-orange at 610 to 620 nm [10]. Amber reads yellow-orange, red-orange reads closer to Baylan’s blade. Both use AlInGaP chips and shift with heat. Amber drifts 0.10 nm per degree C in the datasheet [10]. See the amber or blood orange section for the numbers and the heat and color shift notes if a blade turns red as it warms.
On a pixel blade, orange is a mix of red and green, so you can tune it. See neopixel lightsabers.

Which one should you choose
- If you want orange only for a look, buy a pixel saber with a color menu.
- If you want Baylan’s hilt and a licensed product, choose between the Hasbro and Disney models above.
- If you are building your own, use a red-orange or a tuned pixel color, and read build your own lightsaber.
- If you want a character in the same series, see white for Ahsoka.
- For how the color sits among others, see lightsaber colors and purple.

Lightsaber Colors and What They Mean: Canon vs Legends
Lightsaber colors come from the kyber crystal inside the hilt. Blue and green are the common Jedi colors, red marks a corrupted crystal, and purple, yellow, white, orange and black are rarer. In canon, color has no fixed rule. Most 'meanings' come from Legends or fans.
How to Choose a Lightsaber Blade Color: LED and Pixel Guide
Pick a blade color by wavelength and brightness, not by name. Lime and green LEDs give the most light, blue and deep red give the least, and cameras exaggerate blue. Pixel blades set color in software. In-hilt LEDs fix it in the emitter. Watts claimed on a listing say little.
