A white lightsaber means Ahsoka Tano in canon. She took two red kyber crystals from an Inquisitor’s saber, purified them with the Force, and the blades came out white [1][2]. Legends has white blades too, but they belong to a different group [6]. Real white blades are a pixel or LED setting, or a licensed model with a fixed white blade.
Below: who carried white, how the color is made in the story, and what you can actually buy. Last checked: 7 November 2026. For every other color, see the lightsaber colors overview.
Who carried a white lightsaber
| Carrier | Continuity | Where | Era | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ahsoka Tano | Canon | Star Wars Rebels, first in the season one finale “Fire Across the Galaxy” [1] | Imperial era [2] | Curved hilts, one standard blade and one shoto [1] |
| Ahsoka Tano | Canon | The Mandalorian, “Chapter 13: The Jedi” [1][8] | After Return of the Jedi (unverified for this show) | Live action, played by Rosario Dawson [8] |
| Ahsoka Tano | Canon | The Book of Boba Fett, “Chapter 6” [1] | After Return of the Jedi (unverified for exact year) | Same sabers [1] |
| Ahsoka Tano | Canon | Ahsoka, from August 2023 [9] | After Return of the Jedi [9] | Green, white and blue blades appear together [7] |
| Imperial Knights of the Fel Empire | Legends | Legends material [6] | Fel Empire era (unverified) | Among the first to use white blades, per one guide [6] |
Ahsoka is the only character the sources link to white in current canon [1][4][6]. One search result named other canon users, but that could not be confirmed from a source opened for this page, so it is left out (unverified).
Ahsoka Tano
Ahsoka’s white sabers are handmade. The archive page describes curved, rectangular hilts built from salvaged material. The first ones were scrap metal put together in the middle of a fight, and she later refined them [1]. There is a full-length saber and a shoto [1]. The handbook agrees on the color, the series list and the reversed-grip hilts, but marks the first-appearance year as unverified [11].
The official Databank says that during her time as a Fulcrum agent she built new lightsabers with “blades of white” [4]. Her appearances run through The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett and Tales of the Jedi [4].
On screen, Wikipedia notes that the colorless blades signal that she is neither Jedi nor Sith [8]. The archive page attributes the same reading to showrunner Dave Filoni [1]. That is a production statement, not a rule of the universe.
How purified kyber works
In canon, a dark side user can bleed a kyber crystal, which turns it red [2]. A light side user can reverse that, and the healed crystal usually comes out white [2]. Ahsoka did this after the Sixth Brother was defeated on Raada. She took two crystals from his saber and purified them [1]. Wikipedia places the same step at the end of the novel Ahsoka [3].
The Databank’s general entry says a kyber crystal is colorless until it attunes to its Jedi, and then glows blue or green, or sometimes another shade [5]. White is the reverse path: not a first bonding but a crystal brought back [2].
Tales of the Jedi adds an origin scene. One fan news site reports that the final episode shows Ahsoka getting a red-bladed saber from a defeated Inquisitor, and that she later crafts the crystals into the white blades [10]. The archive page names the Sixth Brother and Raada [1]. The two accounts were not reconciled, so the exact Inquisitor in that scene is (unverified).
What white means
Official sources do not assign a fixed meaning. The readings that circulate are:
- Healing or a fresh start, because the crystals were corrupted and then cleansed [2][6].
- Neutrality or a middle path, because she is neither Jedi nor Sith [8][14].
- A symbol of independence, which one retailer’s guide offers without a citation (unverified).
If a page gives you only the third reading, check what it cites. The first two have a sourced link back to the story or the production.
White in Legends
Legends is the pre-2014 material that Disney moved out of canon. A guide on color meanings says the Imperial Knights of the Fel Empire were among the first to use white blades, and that they were Force-trained warriors who rejected both the light and dark sides’ accepted beliefs [6]. They are Legends, not canon [6].
Do not carry Legends readings over to Ahsoka. Her white has its own canon explanation, the purified crystal [2].
How a white blade is shown
On the original films, the blades were plain white rods before rotoscoping added color [7]. Hasbro describes the on-screen blade as a white plasma blade [12].
On a physical replica, white works differently from blue or red. An LED or pixel blade makes white by driving all its color channels at once. That is the highest-power state. Adafruit lists up to 60 mA per pixel at full white, and notes that the far end of a long run can turn brown because blue and green need more voltage than red [13]. A white blade is the setting most likely to look tinted when the battery is low or the wiring is thin. See the color choice guide for the LED and pixel details, and lightsaber batteries for sizing the power.
Can you buy a white lightsaber
Yes, in three ways.
| Option | What you get | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Pixel or multi-color saber | White as one of many color settings | Cheapest way to try white. See neopixel lightsabers |
| Licensed Ahsoka replica | A fixed look based on her hilt | Hasbro’s Force FX Elite model has a removable blade and a built-in 3.7V 880mAh Li-Ion battery that the user cannot replace [12] |
| Custom build | Any hilt with a white blade profile | See build your own lightsaber |
The Hasbro listing states it is for ages 14 and up and carries a warning that the toy produces flashes that may trigger epilepsy in sensitized people [12]. Current stock and price were not checked on a store page (unverified). For general buying advice, see best lightsaber.
Which one should you choose
- If you only want to see white and other colors, choose a pixel saber with a color menu.
- If you want Ahsoka’s look and a licensed product, look at the Hasbro model [12] and read its battery notes.
- If you want her curved hilts exactly, plan a custom build or a conversion, and read lightsaber conversions and replicas.
- If you are dressing as her, see lightsaber cosplay.
- If you are comparing colors, see the other color pages: orange, purple and black.

Lightsaber Colors and What They Mean: Canon vs Legends
Lightsaber colors come from the kyber crystal inside the hilt. Blue and green are the common Jedi colors, red marks a corrupted crystal, and purple, yellow, white, orange and black are rarer. In canon, color has no fixed rule. Most 'meanings' come from Legends or fans.
How to Choose a Lightsaber Blade Color: LED and Pixel Guide
Pick a blade color by wavelength and brightness, not by name. Lime and green LEDs give the most light, blue and deep red give the least, and cameras exaggerate blue. Pixel blades set color in software. In-hilt LEDs fix it in the emitter. Watts claimed on a listing say little.
