Short answer
Answer seven questions, count your letters, and match the most frequent letter to one of the seven Star Wars lightsaber forms. The scoring table and results list each form's traits as described in Star Wars reference works. It is a fun quiz, not a sword-fighting assessment.
On this page7 sections
This lightsaber form quiz has seven questions. Pick one letter per question, count how many times each letter appears, and use the scoring table to find your form. Form I (Shii-Cho) is the basic one, II (Makashi) is for saber duels, III (Soresu) is defense, IV (Ataru) is acrobatic attack, V (Shien and Djem So) counters, VI (Niman) balances, and VII (Juyo and Vaapad) is the fiercest [1][2][3][4][5][6][7].
The quiz is for fun. As a lightsaber style quiz it is a personality game built on how Star Wars reference works describe each form, and it says nothing about how you would fare in a real sword fight. If you want the full detail on each form, read the lightsaber forms guide. Last checked: 2026-11-07.
How the quiz works
Read each question and note the letter of the answer you would pick without overthinking it. At the end, count the letters. The letter you used most often points to your form in the scoring table below.
The seven forms come from the main pages of the Star Wars fan encyclopedia Wookieepedia, which is the source for the descriptions [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]. The official StarWars.com Databank entry for the lightsaber does not list the forms, so there is no official one-page list to cite [8]. Wookieepedia keeps older Legends material on separate pages, and this page uses only the main (canon) pages. Legends stories may describe a character’s form differently.

Scoring table
| Letter you picked most | Your form | Summary |
|---|---|---|
| A | Form IV, Ataru | Acrobatic and offensive [4] |
| B | Form I, Shii-Cho | Oldest and most basic [1] |
| C | Form VII, Juyo and Vaapad | Most aggressive and unpredictable [7] |
| D | Form III, Soresu | Defense first [3] |
| E | Form II, Makashi | Careful, controlled strikes [2] |
| F | Form VI, Niman | Balanced, combines other forms [6] |
| G | Form V, Shien and Djem So | Solid blocks, then strong counters [5] |
If two letters tie, use your answer to Question 4 as the tiebreaker. If you picked a different letter in every question, your form is VI, Niman, which is described as the balanced one [6].
Your result
All trait descriptions below come from the Wookieepedia main pages for each form and reflect the main pages only, with no Legends material.
Form I, Shii-Cho
Shii-Cho is called the oldest and most rudimentary form of lightsaber combat. The wiki says the Jedi Order taught it to all members, and that it was often used when other forms had failed. It is also called the Determination Form or the Way of the Sarlacc [1]. If you are a Form I result, you prefer a direct approach and learn fundamentals first.
Form II, Makashi
Makashi is described as a specialist form for duels with Sith opponents. It relies on careful, controlled strikes instead of power and strength. Count Dooku is named as a master who trained Asajj Ventress, and the Grand Inquisitor, the Third Sister and Ki-Adi-Mundi are listed as practitioners. The same page says crossguard sabers were once common among Makashi users [2]. See also crossguard lightsabers.
Form III, Soresu
Soresu focuses more on defense than attack, and is also called the Way of the Mynock or the Resilience Form. Depa Billaba taught it to Caleb Dume, who became Kanan Jarrus, and Obi-Wan Kenobi mastered it [3].
Form IV, Ataru
Ataru is called the Aggression Form, an acrobatic style that suits open spaces and attack, though it can defend against projectiles. Anakin Skywalker is recorded making adjustments to classic Form IV techniques in a holographic recording [4].
Form V, Shien and Djem So
Djem So is built on solid blocks and parries followed by strong counterattacks and ripostes. It was created for lightsaber against lightsaber combat. Anakin Skywalker is a known Djem So user, and Ahsoka Tano is described as preferring Shien, which allows a reverse grip [5].
Form VI, Niman
Niman can combine double-bladed lightsaber combat with Force abilities such as pushes and lifts. Darth Maul is described as having mastered the form and using it against Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Theed power generator [6]. For that weapon, see double-bladed lightsabers.
Form VII, Juyo and Vaapad
Form VII, also called the Ferocity Form, is considered the most aggressive and unpredictable. The Juyo variant was prevalent among dark side adepts such as Darth Maul and the Grand Inquisitor. Mace Windu established the Vaapad variant with help from Sora Bulq [7].
What this quiz is and is not
This is a game. The questions were written to line up with how Star Wars reference works describe each form: Soresu as defensive, Ataru as acrobatic and so on [3][4]. A result is not a measure of skill, fitness or safety, and no part of it is a combat assessment. Real dueling needs gear, rules and a supervised setting [10]. For safety reading before any sparring, see the dueling guide.

FAQ
What lightsaber form am I?
Count the letters you picked in the quiz above, then find the most frequent letter in the scoring table. It maps to one of Forms I to VII.
How many lightsaber forms are there?
Seven, numbered I to VII. Forms V and VII each have two named disciplines [5][7].
Which lightsaber form is best?
The sources do not rank them. Soresu is described as defense first and Juyo and Vaapad as the most aggressive [3][7].
Are the forms in the Databank?
The Databank lightsaber entry names no combat forms when checked, so the form details here come from Wookieepedia [8].
Which forms are canon and which are Legends?
This page uses Wookieepedia’s main pages for Forms I to VII. Legends material is kept separately on that wiki and is not used here [1][7].
Can I learn these forms in real life?
Not as such. They are fictional. Real clubs teach their own curricula, so check a club’s own rules and gear list [9][10].
